March

Kent Probation
Damian was shown the various ways Kent Probation tries to integrate offenders back into the community, keeping them on the straight and narrow. This is one of the unsung public services which he believes needs strong support.

Tuesday Club
Damian spoke to the Tuesday Club, a regular meeting of blind and partially sighted people, at the Ashford Cricket Club. He heard how the Club provides an essential meeting place for people who can otherwise easily remain isolated.

Ashford Station
Damian officially opened the new domestic station at Ashford. He pointed out that with the new high-speed services Ashford commuters deserved a top-class station as well.

Ashford Arts Vision
Damian took part in a workshop at the Council Offices to plan Ashford's future cultural offerings. He hopes that this will see some real improvements in the arts and culture available in Ashford in the years ahead.

Phoenix Community Primary School
As part of his continuing set of school visits, Damian admired the many new facilities at the Phoenix School in Bybrook. He remembers his visit to the old school, when water was coming in through the walls, so was pleased to see proper modern facilities.

Universal Target Systems
This high-tech manufactuing company, which makes aerospace systems in Challock, is a great example of successful manufacturing in Kent. Damian opened their new extended office building.

Highworth Mock Election
As a rehearsal for the real thing, Highworth School staged a Mock Election with Damian and some of the other candidates standing in the real thing. Following the speeches, the students voted, and Damian was delighted to hear that the Conservatives won!

Local Commissioning Group
Local health services are one of Damian's main concerns, so he attended the monthly meeting of the Ashford Local Commissioning Group, which brings together leading health professionals to discuss current concerns.

William Harvey
On the same theme, Damian took time to look round many areas at the William Harvey Hospital, with particular empahsis on the pathology services, and the new midwife-led paediatric ward.

Ashford Ambulance
Completing his current round of health visits, Damian looked in at the Ashford Ambulance Station, and was shown the tremendous range of equipment now carried by paramedics on ambulances.

River Studio
The latest addition to the Stour Centre is a state of the art Dance Studio, and Damian went along to help with the opening by James and Ola from Strictly Come Dancing.
